If you use Firefox browser, download the Free Fire FTP.
Download Filezilla for Free-Compatible with Windows/MAC/Linux.

Almost all FTP systems are the same, they simply word things differently.
FTPs require 3 things:
A remote host/address (usually just your domain name or IP of the website)
A user name
A password
If you have these 3 things you can usually use an FTP to connect and move files.

Select a Tutorial: Windows XP FTP, Fire FTP, Filezilla FTP
If you prefer a video tutorial- those will be coming in the future,
until then, do a google search for [video demo FTP tutorial] most hosting companies have them.

Have windows XP on your computer? Surprise you have a free built in FTP.

Right click on the "START" button.
A menu will appear.
Click on "Explore".

right click in the menu area up top.
A menu will appear.
Check the address bar to turn it on.
In the address bar, type in the following:
ftp://username:password@remote host

Fire FTP

fire FTP Open your Firefox browser.
Click on TOOLS.
Click on FIRE FTP.

set up the site to connect to
by clicking Create an Account.
fire FTP In the new window, enter the following
Account Name: Whatever you want
Host: usually the domain name or IP address of website
Longin: User name -note:
Some systems differ. User name could be:
User name or user name@domain name
For example: User name is bob
Could be bob or bob@example.com
Password: Enterr your password.
Click the OK button
fire FTP Choose the site you want to connect to.
Press CONNECT.

You can see what site you are connected to
There is a button to disconnect or abort
Local Site:
Is your computer and the directories/files on your computer
The top section tells you what directory you are currently in.
The left side shows the available directories.
The rigt side shows the directories and files of the current directory.
Remote Site:
Is the remote computer/website you are connected to.
You will see the directories and files that are on that server
The top section tells you what directory you are currently in.

Transfer Buttons:
You can transfer files by simply dragging and dropping files
or by clicking on a directory or file and clicking the transfer button and telling the computer to add it to the other side. Status and transfer information:
Lets you keep track of what protocol is occurring

Filezilla FTP

filezilla FTP Open the Progam Filezilla.
Click on the File dropdown menu.
To set up a new site, click Site Manager.

Under HOST put the remote host or address
(Usually the domain name or the IP address of the website)
Most FTP systems use port 21
Your hosting service should adivse of the port
if it is different than 21.
If you do not use a proxy service,
choose normal logon
Enter the user name and password
Some systems differ. User name could be:
User name or user name@domain name
For example: User name is bob
Could be bob or bob@example.com
You can now click on the CONNECT button

Connect to your account through FILE

Message Log Window:
Lets you keep track of what protocol is occurring
Local Site:
Is your computer and the directories/files on your computer
Remote Site:
Is the remote computer/website you are connected to.
You will see the directories and files that are on that server
Transfer Queue:
Shows the status of files that are being transferred.
You can transfer files by simply dragging and dropping files.
